DSUSA Job Descriptions

All registered fee paying students at Dixie State University are members of the Dixie State University Student Association (DSUSA). The DSUSA leadership consists of the Executive Council: the Student Body President, Vice-President of Academics, Vice-President of Student Life, Vice-President of Public Relations, Vice-President of Clubs and Organizations, Vice-President of Service ; Academic Senators; Club Council Representatives; Public Relation Managers; Student Life Chairs; Service Leaders; Administrative Assistances; a Chief Justice, and the Involvement Coordinator. In addition there are approximately 40 committee member positions.

DSUSA directs the student life and events on campus, all clubs, the student senate, service, and oversees the allocation of student fees. The Student Involvement & Leadership department is committed to training incoming and current student leaders on campus policy and procedure, and promoting involvement in an inclusive learning environment. The mission of DSUSA is designed to: provide students with learning and service opportunities, offer leadership training, promote school spirit, create unity and a unique Dixie culture, link Dixie traditions with new students, and offer a voice to the student body.  Each DSUSA Executive Council evaluates the needs of the students and develops strategies to attain the specific goals of each year.

Additional requirements to be a DSUSA Stipend Leader include:

• Maintain a 2.5 GPA and 2.75 GPA for academic senators
• Register for the Leadership Perspectives Class (2 credits) each Tuesday at 5 pm
• Attend the Utah Leadership Association Retreat: Tuesday May 13th – Saturday May 17th
• Attend the DSUSA fall retreat: Aug. 19th-22nd
• Comply with the DSUSA Constitution: http://dixiestudentlife.com/dsusa/constitution-bylaws/
• Sign an Academic & Behavior Agreement based on the DSUSA Code of Conduct
• Fulfill specific job description and office hours as outlined below

President’s Cabinet

DSUSA Student Body President: Full Tuition Scholarship plus Stipend (25 hours per week)
The DSUSA Student Body President (SBP) is the Chief Executive Officer for DSUSA, and represents the collective voice of the DSU student body in numerous capacities. The (SBP) sits on various campus committees, meets with school faculty and administration, and is a voting member of the Dixie State Board of Trustees. The SBP oversees all student government functions including: leadership trainings, retreats, forums etc. The SBP is the chair of the Executive Council and is responsible for helping guide the Vice Presidents in leading their individual branches and fulfilling their objectives and goals. The SBP along with the entire Executive Council oversee the allocation of student fees.

Administrative Assistant to the President: $1,000 stipend (10 hours per week)
The Administrative Assistant to the President maintains workflow by taking minutes at Executive Council meeting, and managing communication with Executive Council & DSUSA student leaders. The Administrative Assistant has set work hours at the front desk in the Student Government offices to assist students with information about student government. The assistant also maintains, checks, and stocks all student government office supplies, and maintains receipts and expenditures for the president.

Chief Justice: $1,000 Stipend: (10 hours per week)
The Chief Justice is a non-voting member of the Executive Council but a voting member of the Student Council. The main responsibilities of the Chief Justice include: interpreting the DSUSA Constitution during official matters, revising/updating the DSUSA Constitution, assisting in the revision process of departmental bylaws, serving as chair of the DSUSA Election Committee, organizing the Direction of Dixie Forum each semester, and planning relevant activities.

Involvement Coordinator: $500 Stipend: (5 hours per week)
The Involvement Coordinator  works directly with the Student Body President to increase involvement and school spirit at Dixie State.  In particular, this position oversees the “Dixie Spirit Crew” which is a group of students from all over campus whose primary objective is to generate “Dixie Spirit” at the student events and games, and provides support to all of the DSUSA branches of government.

Senate

Vice President of Academics: Full Tuition Scholarship plus Stipend (20 hours per week)
The Vice President of Academics (VPA) is a member of the Executive Council and oversees the Academic Council. The Academic Council consists of the Vice President of Academics and the eight Academic Senators. This position is a voice and channel of the student body enabling them to have the best quality experience in higher education by addressing and solving students’ academic concerns. The Vice President of Academics shall serve as the official liaison between the Student Senate and the Executive Council. 

Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Academics: $500 Stipend (5 hours per week)
The Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Academics maintains workflow by taking minutes at the weekly Student Senate meetings, and manages communication through the Senate. The Administrative Assistant has set work hours at the front desk in the Student Government offices to assist students with information about student government.

Academic Senators: $500 Stipend (5 hours per week)
Senators represent declared majors at Dixie State University. Senators also serve as a liaison between the student body and faculty. As such, it is imperative that the representing senator maintains a good rapport with their department faculty. They help decide where to allocate a portion of student fees by writing and investigating bills presented to the senate on behalf of the students’ academic pursuits. Senators keep a pulse of the student body and as such represent the students’ voice to the Executive Council.  Below is a list of academic senate positions:

Student Institute of Politics

NEW POSITION: Student Director of Institute of Politics: Half Tuition Stipend (10 hours per week)

The Student Director is ultimately responsible for all the Institute’s programs and events. In close coordination with the DSUSA Vice President of Academics, the Student Director represents the DSU student body to campus, community, and state officials. The Student Director assists in the planning and implementation of dozens of political education and involvement events. The Student Director’s focus is centered on increasing political awareness and activity at DSU.

NEW POSITION: Political Involvement Event Coordinator 1: $500 Stipend (5 hours per week)

The events coordinator is responsible for planning and carrying out all Institute events, including weekly Pizza and Politics discussions, election debates and forums, and Political Involvement Week activities. The events coordinator will work closely with the DSUSA Public Relations department as well as campus Guest Services.

NEW POSITION: Political Involvement Event Coordinator 2: $500 Stipend (5 hours per week)

NEW POSITION: Internship Outreach Coordinator: $500 Stipend (5 hours per week)

The internships Outreach Coordinator works closely with the Director of the Institute and the Director of Employer Outreach and Internships to provide public policy internship opportunities for DSU students.

Clubs

Vice President of Clubs & Organizations (Executive Council Member): Full Tuition Scholarship plus Stipend (20 hours per week)
The Clubs & Organizations Vice President serves as a member of the Student Association Executive Council (EC) and is a liaison between the EC and all student clubs and organizations. The Vice President of Clubs & Organizations heads the Inter Club Council, oversees weekly club meetings, and assisting all clubs and organizations to promote and market themselves to the DSUSA student body. 

Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Clubs & Organizations: $500 Stipend (5 hours per week)
The Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Clubs and Organizations maintains workflow by taking minutes at the weekly Inter Club Council meetings, and manages communication with the Inter Club Council and the Club Representatives.  The assistance updates Orgsync timesheets, tracks assignments given to student leaders.

Club Reps: $500 Stipend (5 hours per week)
Club Representatives sit on the Inter-Club Council, and the constituents they represent are club presidents. Thus, clubs have a voice through their Club Representative. Club Representatives keep frequent contact with, train, and inform Club Presidents and Club Advisors. They make decisions concerning the issues and Bills that come before the Inter-Club Council. Student Life

Vice President of Student Life (Executive Council Member): Full Tuition Scholarship plus Stipend (20 hours per week)
The Vice President of Student Life serves as a voting member of the Student Association Executive Council. This position oversees all four chairs within Student Life and approves all activities on campus. This position serves students, encourages involvement by providing interactive and enticing plans activities that appeal to the diverse student population.

Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Student Life: $500 Stipend (5 hours per week)
The Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Student Life maintains workflow by taking minutes at the weekly Student Life meetings, and manages communication through the Student Life. The Administrative Assistant has set work hours at the front desk in the Student Government offices to assist students with information about student government. 

Social Events Chair: Full Tuition Stipend (20 hours per week)
The Social Events Chair, under Student life is responsible for the planning of dances and Dixie State traditional event. Some event planned by this years’ social chair are as follows:
First of the year Foam Dance, Homecoming Dance, Halloween Howl, Game-night stomps, D-Week Carnival. Additional responsibilities include (but are not limited to): Attending weekly meetings, student government retreats, and any other DSUSA sponsored event.

Public Events Chair: Full Tuition Stipend (20 hours per week)
The Public Events Chair is responsible to direct the three pageants held at Dixie State University; Miss Dixie State, Mr. Dixie, and D-Queen. This position is also over the Entertainment Dixie’s and is responsible for booking and bringing entertainers on campus that enhance student involvement at DSUSA activities. In order to hold this position there are weekly meetings to attend as well as participation and supporting all the events that are a part of Student Life.

Spirit Chair: Full Tuition Stipend (20 hours per week)
The Spirit Chair’s main purpose is to get students involved by helping create fun activities, and helping Dixie Students to enjoy their college experience. The Spirit Chair is in charge of the D-Week Kick off, Student Night at the Play, and Blender events, which are activities that back to the students. Another important aspect is to work with the D-CREW leaders to help get people excited at games and throughout the year. The Spirit Chair is an awesome position because you get to be involved, be creative and have a lot of fun!

Public Relations

Vice President of Public Relations (Executive Council Member): 

The Public Relations Manager uses creativity and people skills to connect with fellow students and make them aware of all the great opportunities available to them as Dixie students. They manage a small committee that focuses on increasing the attendance at campus events and strengthening the relationships between Dixie students, student government, and faculty.

Graphic Design Manager: Full Tuition Stipend (20 hours per week)
The Graphic Design Manager designs and prints any posters, banners, fliers, and any other marketing material used to promote DSUSA activities and sponsored events.

Social Media Manager: Full Tuition Stipend (20 hours per week)

The Social-Media Manager uses social-media to market, brand and create engagement for DSUSA as a whole, and events they sponsor through the website, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Youtube, vine and more to supplement other marketing plans.

Videographer/ Photographer : Full Tuition Stipend (20 hours per week)

The Videographer/Photography Manager uses videography/photography to document and provide content for marketing purposes for DSUSA events through the website, social media, television screens, and more.

Marketing Manager: Full Tuition Stipend (20 hours per week)

The Marketing Manager ensures that every student at Dixie is aware of upcoming DSUSA events through creative marketing and talking to students on campus. 

Service

Vice President of Service: Full Tuition Scholarship plus Stipend (20 hours per week)
The Vice President of Service serves as a member of the Student Association Executive Council (EC) and is a liaison between the EC and the Service Council. The Vice President of Service heads the Student Service Council, oversees weekly Service meetings, directs communication and participation between students and community, allocates student fees toward service learning opportunities and community engagement, and manages all community partner accounts. 

Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Service: $500 Stipend (5 hours per week)
The Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Service maintains workflow by taking minutes at the weekly Service meetings, and manages communication through the Service Branch. The Administrative Assistant has set work hours at the front desk in the Student Government offices to assist students with information about student government.

Service Leader Community Engagement: $500 (5 hours per week)

The Community Engagement Service Leader is expected to meet with community partners and create new relationships within the community. They will also plan and orchestrate a large-scale service project every month during each semester. With the help of a committee with 3-5 members this position will plan and organize how to best execute those service projects.  Other responsibilities include helping with Campus to Community, working with the service club and supporting the other organizations within student government.

Service Leader Campus Relations: $500 (5 hours per week)

The Campus Relations Service Leader is expected to meet with clubs and service learning courses to make ensure student involvement in upcoming events. They will also plan and orchestrate a large-scale service project every month during each semester. With the help of a committee with 3-5 members this position will plan and organize how to best execute those service projects.  Other responsibilities include helping with Campus to Community, working with the service club and supporting the other organizations within student government.

Service Leader: Special Events: $500 (5 hours per week)

The Special Events Service Leader is expected to help with special monthly service opportunities that are hosted on campus or within the community. The Special Events Service Leader will plan and organize alternative Spring/Fall break activities. They will also plan and orchestrate a large-scale service project every month during each semester. With the help of a committee with 3-5 members this position will plan and organize how to best execute those service projects.  Other responsibilities include helping with Campus to Community, working with the service club and supporting the other organizations within student government.
